In the spring of the twelfth year of the Republic of China, warlord melee swept across the south of the Yangtze River. In the chaotic times, the family and country were in turmoil, and everyone was in danger. Gu Dan, a down-and-out scholar from a scholarly family, was attacked by bandits on his way to escape and was rescued by the warlord Qi Hui. One is a weak scholar with no physical strength, and has the ambition to save the country through culture; the other is a fierce soldier who dominates the battlefield, hiding revolutionary ideals. Two completely different souls met for the first time in the bloody setting sun at the foot of Wangchun Mountain, and their fates have been entangled ever since.
