Exchanging Merit for Combat Skills: What’s Wrong with Being a Little Overpowered?

[A perfectly crafted protagonist, decisive and ruthless, with a fast-paced story that's well worth reading]

Ghosts carry resentment. Help them let it go, and you'll earn immeasurable merit.

The protagonist can see the obsessions of the dead. By helping spirits fulfill their final wishes, she earns “Merit Points” that she can exchange for combat skills.

She's aloof, telling the wrongfully slain spirits, “I can find the person who killed you!”

She's decisive, sneering at arrogant practitioners of dark arts: “You... won't get another chance.”

She's fearless, coolly facing threats from powerful figures: “Don't mess with me. That's a warning!”

But when faced with her family's ghosts, she's helpless: “Why? Why can't I unlock my memories of my past life?”

Because her adoptive parents and older brother all died after unlocking and peeking into her memories of her past life. With their dying breaths, they warned her: “Don't unlock your memories of your past life, or you'll die too!”

Until one day...
