Yaluo and Yibu meet in a frontier town over a box of hot food. The boy starved of affection and the girl burdened by Magic Stone Disease protect each other with fists and magic, only to be dragged into a repeating cycle by the Dragon God’s claws.
After bargaining with a god in the midst of death, Yaluo uses Yibu’s remains to create a doll named Galatea. Yet over a thousand years, he glimpses a soul crying out to be more than a “replacement” in the faint light of the doll’s mechanical eyes.
Magic Stone Disease spreads from the doll’s blades, becoming a black plague. The once-innocent boy is branded a “devil who controls life and death,” with only the whirring of gears for company as everyone turns against him.
In the final battle, Galatea’s core falls apart protecting him. Yibu’s soul fragments tremble inside the doll, and only then, amid the agony of dragon scales being torn away, does he understand: being reborn is not about correcting the past, but embracing the broken truth.
When the red dragon’s roar shatters the lies of the gods, a miracle quietly unfolds among the ruins beneath the aurora. The doll becomes a fairy on his shoulder, Galatea reforms as a spirit, and the soft chime of gears mingles with the whisper of petals to form a song.
At last, he stops chasing eternity. Amid the scent of violets and the gears of starlight, he understands: the three lonely souls have long made each other whole through their brokenness. The true meaning of being reborn is simply to hold tight to the light right before you.
When I arrived at Rudy's place and killed the villagers randomly as if nothing had happened, I couldn't stand it anymore. In the original novel, Rudy hit the villagers with water balloons several times, and the parents started to make a fuss. This time, everyone was killed directly, and nothing happened. When asked why, the author replied, "We are all trying our best to survive!"
Come on 👍
The plot is really difficult 😅
It's pretty good, I like this kind of stream of consciousness
