Ling Chuchu, a modern-day unemployed woman who dies suddenly while binge-watching a drama, transmigrates into the body of the third daughter of a merchant family in Huaian City. The original owner faked madness to avoid an arranged marriage, while Ling Chuchu binds herself to a lie-flat System and begins a lazy life.
At a temple fair, she meets Liu Zheyu. Ling Chuchu falls into the water while chasing after the handsome man and accidentally activates a reward. She later learns that Liu Zheyu is actually the heir to the Prince of Zhennan, traveling incognito to investigate a smuggling case involving illegal salt, and that he is also the original owner's fiancé.
To help with the investigation, Ling Chuchu uses modern knowledge to make things entertaining, but her identity is exposed when they break through the salt merchants' blockade. The System upgrades, and she gets an electric baton for protection. The two go through one adventure after another, and their feelings for each other gradually grow.
The salt merchants conspire with the prefect to incite a riot. Ling Chuchu helps with a viral square-dance song, while Liu Zheyu leads troops to put down the rebellion. Once the case is solved, the two sign a "Lazy Fish Care Agreement" and open a teahouse in Jiangnan, where their romance continues.
