Chen Mo, the legitimate son of the Chen family of Yunzhou, was once a genius with extraordinary talent for alchemy. But ten years ago, an explosion in an alchemy furnace destroyed his alchemy meridians, leaving him cast aside by his family. His fiancée, Chen Xueyao, broke off their engagement in public. To protect the family’s secret, his father, Chen Zhenyue, forced a bloodstained half of the Nine Heavens Fragmented Cauldron into his mouth. The Chen family was then slaughtered by the Blood Soul Cult.
The price of awakening the Spirit-Devouring Poison is that it devours other people’s spiritual energy to nourish its bearer, while gradually turning him into a puppet of the “Spirit-Devouring Demon Clan.” While in exile in Qingyang Town, Chen Mo accidentally discovers that the alchemy poison in his body can control the Fragmented Cauldron. In a desperate situation, he refines his first batch of Soul-Burning Pills. Amid the blazing blue flames, he sees the truth about his father’s final moments: the Blood Soul Cult is using the Chen family’s bloodline to revive the Blood Soul Ancestor, and the Nine Heavens Fragmented Cauldron is the key to the seal suppressing the Demon Venerable.
Fate takes a turn in the secret realm of Netherworld Valley. As Chen Mo fights to the death against Blackwind Stronghold to save his adoptive father, the Spirit-Devouring Poison runs wild and devours the bandit chief’s spiritual energy. A strange purple pattern appears in his left eye. At death’s door, he awakens an ancient consciousness inside the Fragmented Cauldron and learns that he is the Host chosen by the Nine Heavens Fragmented Cauldron. But his true mission is not...
Amid a conspiracy interweaving the mortal and immortal realms, he meets Su Yan, the reincarnation of the Iceglass Fairy. She possesses the Ice Soul Cold Jade physique, and when the Heavenly Sword Sect pursues her, her frigid energy spirals out of control. Yet after coming into contact with Chen Mo’s blood, it temporarily suppresses the rampaging alchemy poison. The two join forces to venture through the Blazing Sun Sect and the Pill King Valley. At the Nine Provinces Alchemy Conference, they face off against Chu Lingxiao, the young master of the Blood Soul Cult, only to uncover an even greater mystery: the one who slaughtered the Chen family all those years ago was a disciple of the Demon Venerable, whom Su Yan herself had slain in her previous life!
“Alchemy is heartless, but spirit-devouring has!”
