Re:Zero: A New Adaptation

I really love the anime Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World. I enjoy many of its characters and settings, which only makes me more frustrated with certain aspects of the series. Some of the plot choices and story elements make me uncomfortable, so a long time ago I started thinking about rewriting the story with my own ideas and settings.

Recently, the third season of Re:Zero began airing. Budget issues have led to many parts of the story being cut short, depriving the characters of many standout moments. The most criticized part has been the fight scenes, which are usually glossed over in a few strokes, making them very unpleasant to watch. This only strengthened my resolve to write my own version.

I'm very dissatisfied with many of the author's choices for Subaru, the male lead, and the way his story is handled. After everything he's been through, why does he still so often have to play the brainless clown, with no growth at all? He finally acquired Witch Factors and gained greater combat strength, yet we hardly ever see him use it in battle. And when he does, the results are downright pitiful. I think this is one reason many people dislike the series.

At first I wanted to write a straightforward power fantasy, but that seemed to go against my original intentions. In the end, I decided to keep most of the male lead's character traits, but remove the most important one: Return by Death. I don't want him to keep dying, and I've also given him many abilities to help him get through the main story.

I haven't read the novels, so I don't know what happens later. This work is therefore adapted from the anime.
