The Legendary Detective Liu Luoguo

This story is adapted from folk legends and traditional opera. Liu Yong earns Emperor Qianlong’s favor with his outstanding performance in the imperial examinations. Starting as a local county magistrate, he rises all the way to Grand Secretary of the Tiren Pavilion, always upholding impartial justice and winning the people’s love.

When famine strikes Shandong, Prince Anle Yelü Qi embezzles disaster relief grain and funds. Wielding the authority of an imperial envoy and assisted by Zhuge Jin and Li Zhilong, Liu Yong gathers proof of his crimes and executes him with the Dragon-Head Executioner’s Blade. But Yelü Hong and a treacherous consort frame Liu Yong. Fortunately, Li Zhilong braves the forbidden palace to present the evidence, clear Liu Yong’s name, and earn the title “Greatest Hero Under Heaven.”

At the Tianqi Temple in Dezhou, Liu Yong unexpectedly discovers Consort Xi, the emperor’s birth mother, living among commoners. Undaunted by hardship, he joins forces with righteous martial-world allies to uncover a wrongful conviction from the Qing court more than twenty years earlier, reunite Qianlong with his mother, and be adopted as the Empress Dowager’s son.

When the Yellow River floods, Liu Tongxun uncovers Tong Sanfeng’s rebellion but is imprisoned. With Guo Ying’s help, Liu Yong rescues those involved and punishes Yelü Hong with the Tiger-Head Executioner’s Blade. Yelü Hong’s daughter, Consort Ye, seeks revenge and has Liu Yong jailed, but Prince Zhuang steps in to protect him. Consort Ye tries another scheme, only for Liu Yong to see through it and bring her to justice.

Demoted to the Jiangning Prefecture, Liu Yong solves the case of Xu Cuiping and Yang Hong’s adulterous affair and murder on the way there, relying on his keen instincts. Qianlong approves of his work and reinstates him. From then on, Liu Yong and Li Zhilong continue to punish evil and promote good in both the martial world and the imperial court, defending justice and leaving behind one celebrated tale after another.
