This is a vivid, easy-to-read, and thought-provoking juvenile novel. Due to the pressure of life, the protagonist of the novel has to stay away from his hometown and follow the "master" to the outside world to make a living, but it seems that they will never be able to enter that world...

When I read this book, I wasn't very careful. There are a lot of descriptions about Xiaohe Village in the book. I can't remember exactly what it was about, but I can still get a glimpse of it. Xiaohe Village is a very poor, but viable small village. From the natural narration of Mingzi, Black Pot, Three Monks and the Duck's humanity, I can deeply see the struggle of the people at the bottom of society. They have original intentions and good nature, but they are also carved by society. Every time is a test of human nature, which is a process of competition. Every time is a mark of growth. From the time when Mingzi persuaded Hei Guan not to gamble until he almost lost control in the end, from when Hei Can got sick and the three monks, the masters of the search, provided money and help, to the subsequent resentment and drove Hei Can away, and finally couldn't withstand the inner condemnation and let him come back... Human beings are not saints, this is probably human nature.
I like this kind of distinct character image and the changes in layered portrayal.
