This novel is presented in chapters, and each chapter tells an independent but interrelated story. Under the instructions of the underworld King of Hell, Black and White Wuchang frequently travels to and from the underworld to deal with various incidents caused by abnormal souls.
In the first chapter, Lin Yu, a strange man from the world of heaven, died and his soul did not return to the underworld, and his life span disappeared from the book of life and death. Black and White Wuchang went to the underworld to investigate. Starting from Lin Yu's life trajectory, he found that he had gone out to search for ancient artifacts that could change his destiny. After returning, he behaved strangely and his body disappeared mysteriously. Following the clues, they found the Barren Mountain Taoist Temple and found that Lin Yu's soul was trapped in the magic circle, and the man in black robe was using it to perform evil rituals. After a fierce battle, Black and White Wuchang defeated the black-robed man, rescued Lin Yu's soul and brought it back to the underworld.
In subsequent chapters, they may deal with the ghosts in the underworld that disturb the order of the world, or solve the mystery of the soul's unwillingness to return due to resentment, or prevent people with evil intentions from using evil magic to tamper with the Book of Life and Death, etc. In each story, Black and White uses his own ability and wisdom to resolve the crisis between Yin and Yang and maintain the balance of Yin and Yang order.
