During the Republic of China, Shanghai was a place of prosperity and turmoil. Su Nian, the daughter of Su Hongyuan, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, was originally a pampered and well-intentioned lady, but unexpectedly encountered the cold military officer Gu Nanting at a charity ball. The two fall in love at first sight, and their relationship heats up quickly. However, their world has already been entangled in the game of power: Su Hongyuan, in order to protect the Chamber of Commerce, was forced to deal with the gangster forces trying to monopolize Shanghai's economic lifeline; and Gu Nanting, as a soldier, is responsible for fighting this dark force.
When Gu Nanting discovers the secret connection between the Su family and the gang, loyalty and love are in a dilemma. In order to prove his father's innocence, Su Nian resolutely conducted an in-depth investigation and discovered the truth that his father was coerced by the gang. When her family's survival was at risk, she and Gu Nanting teamed up to formulate a dangerous situation and combined military forces to launch a life-or-death contest with the gangs. After the smoke cleared, a greater crisis followed - the Japanese invaders marched towards Shanghai.
