When they first met, Su Meixue solemnly promised Xiang Guangyu, “After felling three thousand pear trees and drinking six hundred rivers of Xiang water, I will still see you once.”
In the end, Su Meixue wrote in her diary with a trembling hand: “From now on, though three thousand pear trees and six hundred rivers of Xiang water lie between us, you need not choke back your sobs. I will always remember the first time I saw you.”
