Sweetie, Don’t Cry

After my father went bankrupt, I grew tired of making excuses and dumped Gu Qingfeng, the medical school heartthrob I’d kept for three years. That night, he knelt in the pouring rain, his eyes bloodshot, begging me for eight hours. As for me, I found out I was four months pregnant. Five years later, the poor heartthrob had become a trillionaire. On the day he made the rich list, a reporter asked him: “Mr. Gu, you went from being a poor student to a trillionaire in just five years. What’s your secret?” The man’s lips curled into a faint smile, his narrow, phoenix-shaped eyes full of mockery. “Find a girlfriend who’s obsessed with money, then let her dump you without mercy.” The audience erupted in an uproar. That afternoon, the news that the trillionaire had been betrayed by his girlfriend was trending across the city. Meanwhile, I had just finished my eighth job of the day when I died of exhaustion on my way to pick up my daughter. When I woke again, I was floating in midair. Just as despair began to overwhelm me, I suddenly realized something. Gu Qingfeng, who had sworn to make me regret it for the rest of my life, had found the kindergarten my daughter attended.
