Set against the rivalry between Chu and Wu, this novel follows Jiang Qing, a junior officer in the Chu army, and weaves together the stories of historical figures such as King Ping of Chu, Xiong Ju; King Helu of Wu; Wu Zixu; Sun Wu; Zhuan Zhu; and Yao Li. It tells a series of tales about the wars and military strategies, diplomatic maneuvering, court intrigue, assassinations, national feuds, and philosophical debates surrounding the struggle for supremacy between Chu and Wu during the Spring and Autumn period.
Jiang Qing goes from being the Fire General of Chu to becoming the head of Wu's assassins. He experiences glorious victories on the battlefield, setbacks in officialdom, the upheaval of the Cold Iron, a rampage through the Chu palace, and a life on the run. In the end, he joins Wu Zixu, Sun Wu, and others in a series of assassinations and military and diplomatic campaigns, helping Prince Guang become the hegemon of the Spring and Autumn period.
An assassin is a killer. Some are bloodthirsty, some fight for their country and its people, and some pursue chivalry and justice. Assassins have left behind stories celebrated by later generations throughout the sweep of Chinese history, becoming an indispensable part of ancient Chinese culture.
The author offers this poem:
Waves surge on Taihu, heroes' blood runs red; the Fish Intestine Sword reflects the sun and moon.
The art of roasted fish is lost to the world; every inch belongs to Wu, and its great ambition is fulfilled.
The gray eagle strikes the palace to repay a noble deed; severed-arm blood stains the hegemon's crown.

The author's writing is great, the writing style is very good, and it is very ancient. Reading this book can also help me understand the history better. It is very good. The author is very much like an ancient storyteller. The story is very exciting (please forgive me if there are any presumptions)
The writing is very good, the writing is smooth and the plot is reasonable. Looking forward to continued updates from the author.
History is wonderful, we are just bees dotted in a sea of flowers.
The history of Wu Chu's struggle for hegemony is very exciting, but there are too few heroine plots.
It's nice to read, but a bit hard to read. There seems to be a lot of classical Chinese.
