The male lead, Pei Yanxiao, was born into a family of menial servants in the outer sect of the Tianxuan Sect. Though treated with contempt and bullied, he holds a burning desire to cultivate immortality and possesses astonishing talent. The annual outer sect tournament becomes the turning point in his fate. On the field, Pei Yanxiao displays the exquisite mastery of the Spirit Sky Qi-Controlling Art, overcoming one opponent after another and dazzling the crowd. He draws everyone's attention, and in doing so, earns the jealousy of the second male lead, Zhou Yu. Born into a moderately powerful cultivation clan, Zhou Yu is a devoted simp for the female lead, Yi Luoyao.
Yi Luoyao is a direct disciple of an inner sect elder of the Tianxuan Sect, as beautiful as a goddess and gifted with extraordinary talent. Hoping to win her favor, Zhou Yu goes out of his way to impress her within the sect, but his love is unrequited. When he sees Pei Yanxiao rising to prominence, Zhou Yu fears that he will threaten his standing in the sect, and worries even more that he will steal Yi Luoyao's attention. So he joins forces with others to sabotage Pei Yanxiao during the tournament. Pei Yanxiao faces one difficulty after another in the qualifying rounds. First, Zhou Yu and his allies frame him, leaving him poisoned by the Spirit-Disrupting Powder and his spiritual energy in disarray, at a severe disadvantage. But through sheer willpower and his knowledge of ancient cultivation texts, he breaks through the poison's hold and turns the tide.
Later, on the long road of immortal cultivation, Pei Yanxiao and Yi Luoyao find themselves fighting side by side through one twist of fate after another. Together, they explore mysterious ruins, solve arcane puzzles, and fight evil forces bent on throwing the cultivation world into chaos. As they face life and death together, feelings begin to grow between them...
