Qingtong, a stone demon from the wilderness, unexpectedly awakens the power of the Earth Fiend. After devouring a cultivator’s spiritual energy, he discovers the forbidden tome The Record of Seeking the Way Among Demons within him. It reveals Heaven’s plot to alter the Heavenly Dao and suppress spirits and monsters from cultivating immortality. To overturn the order of the Three Realms, he allies with a painted-skin ghost and a ferryman of the Yellow Springs, breaks into the Demon-Suppressing Tower, seizes the Heaven-Mending Stone, and confronts fallen immortals and heavenly demons. Spirits and monsters need not take human form to seek the Way, but the price of defying fate is eternal solitude, standing guard over mountains and rivers. This is a god-slaying battle among the specters of the netherworld, and an epic of blood and fire in which all living things rewrite the Heavenly Dao.
