My grandmother was the daughter of a landlord. Her name was Zhu Ningqi. She was born in Cangzhu Village, Xinghua, Yangzhou in 1924. She fell in love with a classmate from private school, my grandfather Wu Jiaguo, and they eloped together. They started a family in that turbulent era and traveled around Shanghai. After liberation, they returned to Xinghua, gave birth to children, and finally enjoyed their old age.
