After Switching Babies with My Best Friend, I Became the Empress!

My best friend Zhao Wanqing and I gave birth at the same time. She had a girl, and I had a boy. But as soon as the babies started wailing, a flurry of comments drifted across our eyes. [Sigh, how devastated would they be if they knew their children wouldn’t live past their first birthdays?] [Right? One will be tortured to death by her mother-in-law, who favors boys over girls, with twelve steel needles stuck into her head. The other will be poisoned on the emperor’s personal orders because he fears the Li family’s military power. These two babies were born into the wrong families!] [Aren’t their two mothers, who are such close friends, the real tragedy? Their children are killed, then both of them are left penniless by scumbag men, and after death they’re suppressed by a Taoist priest, doomed to never be reborn.] Reading the comments, my best friend and I both shuddered. We exchanged a glance, then quickly switched babies.
