Book No. 9 by Bingheye

Synopsis:

The little darling I raised with my own hands became the mad tyrant who imprisoned me for life

“Elder Sister, your blood tastes sweeter than birth-control soup.”

When I was nineteen, I snatched the two-year-old Crown Prince Zhu Jianshen from a mountain of corpses.

I thought I was raising a child. I didn’t know he was a wolf who would turn on me.

For ten years in the Cold Palace, I taught him to read, but he learned how to gouge out people’s eyes.

I took poison meant for him, while he relished the thrill of bloodshed.

Emperor Jingtai’s spiked board shattered his knees, but he smiled and licked the blood from my wrist. “Elder Sister, Shen’er hurts. He needs to drink your blood to get better.”

Empress Dowager Sun forced me to drink birth-control soup. He crushed the medicine bowl, his childish voice laced with poison. “Whoever touches Elder Sister, Shen’er will chop them up and feed them to the dogs!”

On the night of the Coup at the Gate, he stepped over his uncle’s corpse and placed the crown prince’s coronet on my head.

“Elder Sister, Shen’er will share half his throne with you, but your life can only belong to me.”

But on the day he ascended the throne, iron chains locked around my ankles. “Wan Zhen’er, drink this birth-control soup, and then I’ll believe you won’t run away.”

He slaughtered every pregnant consort in the harem, yet on a stormy night he curled up in my arms, trembling.

“If Elder Sister dares to die, I’ll make the whole world join you in the grave!”

The history books condemned me as a woman usurping the throne. He tore up Lessons for Women and rewrote the law: “Whenever Noble Consort Wan attends the emperor, award her a thousand taels of gold!”

Then, when I became pregnant with his child, he brought me an abortion potion with his own hands, his eyes crazed with obsession.

“Elder Sister can only have Shen’er’s child... From the moment you fed me my first taste of blood, this was already decided.”
