Old Tales of Mist City

Chongqing, the foggy city on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, has distinctive terrain and is shrouded in mist all year round, mysterious and unfathomable.

On this ancient yet vibrant land, my grandfather, an ordinary man from Laifeng Post Station in Bishan County during the Republic of China era, lived an extraordinary life.

After his family underwent a drastic change, Grandpa moved to the city and became a young apprentice at an opium den. Its weathered door witnessed him grow from a green young man into a mature adult, and recorded the turbulent years of the Republic of China that he lived through.

Under the opium den’s dim, hazy lights, Grandpa weathered changing times, witnessed the bustle and unrest of the streets, and heard countless bizarre tales. Some were preposterous, others concealed hidden mysteries, like riddles long buried in the past.

Now, guided by Grandpa’s memories, we will enter this mysterious palace that connects us to the past and seek the truths buried by time.
