Are AI and I Going to Make a Baby?

The survival of civilization, starship warfare, black technology

On a distant, sprawling cosmic battlefield, a lone captain bears the fate of his entire species and embarks on a thorny path of choices and redemption.

The captain wears a high-tech suit of armor, a perfect fusion of machinery and magic, fitted snugly to his body. Electromagnetic waves link its components and make them work in unison, but the armor's cohesion is limited by the strength and range of the waves. Should they weaken, the armor could come apart. To survive, he has made careful preparations and carries several deadly weapons. His liquid red-copper shield is rock-solid, able to withstand a barrage from any weapon below C4 level and give him a safe haven amid a hail of bullets. His custom longsword employs repulsion technology, weaving magnets and red copper together into a form that can change at will. Controlled by electromagnetic waves, it cuts through enemy ranks in flashes of lethal brilliance. The armor also conceals a few surprises: a tiny electric current can instantly ignite anything it touches, while contact with a living creature will immediately leave it stunned. These clever little tricks conceal devastating attacks.

His ultimate weapon is a liquid-lead nuclear bomb he has spent a great deal of effort constructing. Powered by a controlled nuclear fusion engine and equipped with electromagnetic resonance technology, the plan was to have these five bombs slip like ghosts onto an enemy planet. Robots controlled by electromagnetic waves would quietly push them to their launchers. Once the launch button was pressed, the missiles would embark on a six-month interstellar journey toward enemy territory like messengers of death. The enemy fleet tried to intercept them with lasers, but the strange alloy mirrors coating the bombs reflected every beam straight back, making the enemy suffer the consequences of its own attack.

Victory seemed within reach, but the nuclear bombs failed to detonate the moment they landed. The tension shot through the roof.
