“On the first day of the flesh mutation, I heard Its call from beneath the sea.”
After college student Chen Mu receives a bronze compass covered in eerie symbols, his left hand suddenly mutates into a tentacle studded with eyeballs. At the same time, “deep-sea mutation events” erupt across the globe: coastal cities vanish beneath dense fog, people go mad at whispered voices and turn into monsters, and colossal stone idols rise from the ocean floor, just like the apocalyptic prophecies of the Cthulhu mythos.
To suppress the contamination level surging inside him, Chen Mu is forced to join the mysterious organization Deep Blue Eye, becoming an “Abyss Investigator” tasked with fighting the resurrection of the Old Gods. But he gradually discovers that the more monster flesh he devours, the more he can control forbidden powers: his tentacles rip apart mutated beings, his eyeballs glimpse fragments of the future, and his blood awakens the sunken city of R’lyeh... Meanwhile, a voice in his mind calling itself the “King in Yellow” keeps tempting him: “Become a new god, or remain an insect.”
While the other investigators are still struggling to survive, Chen Mu has already embarked on a dangerous path:
He steals the powers of the Old Ones in a human body and clashes with mysterious cults in the deep sea;
He poses as a gentle, harmless “medic,” while secretly stewing the offspring of evil gods into hot pot;
He buries his teammates with his own hands when contamination drives them mad, yet writes in his diary: “If saving the world means becoming a monster, then I choose... to make the world adapt to me.”
It feels like the logic is a bit jumpy and I don't quite understand it. Some explanations are needed, and many settings appear without explanation and feel incomprehensible.
The plot jumps too much, the background introduction is incomplete, and the world view is not clearly explained... But I feel that if the above points are completed, it will be a very good book.
