[A writing exercise. Probably best not to read]
After an accident took her parents, Jiang Chuyao came to rely on Fu Xingshen more than anyone else in her life.
They were together day and night, and just as she was about to lose control of her racing heart, she overheard him call her “a responsibility I can’t shirk.” So Jiang Chuyao chose to run away and bury her feelings.
Four years later, her grandfather fell seriously ill, forcing her to return to the country. Her family kept trying to arrange a marriage for her, and whenever she found herself in the most difficult situation, he always appeared in time, just as he had four years ago. But now the stern, cold, restrained man told her, “You can use me.”
A marriage certificate bound them together. Jiang Chuyao thought their marriage would be calm and peaceful, with each of them keeping to themselves.
But he always knew how to make her heart flutter.
One day, Jiang Chuyao stumbled upon a secret in his study. It was like opening Pandora’s box: countless plane tickets between the capital and Britain, from all those lonely years spent studying abroad, and proof that someone had always been waiting for her. “When did you start liking me?”
The man pinned her beneath him and answered in a hoarse voice, “That doesn’t matter.”
