Siheyuan: Jia Dongxu's Art of Laying Low

Zhou Heng died in a car accident and unexpectedly transmigrated to 1960s courtyard life, becoming Jia Dongxu, a dying worker with broken ribs and severely injured internal organs.

His mother-in-law clutches every penny, his young son is a ravenous wolf who would devour his own family, his wife hides resentment in her eyes, and the kindly old men of the courtyard conceal deadly intentions. Even the food Silly Zhu brings comes with strings attached. Worse still, the bitter winter of 1959 has arrived, and famine is baring its fangs.

The countdown has begun, and he chooses to lie low at all costs!

Feigning weakness? He'll turn his ailing body into an impenetrable shield! Stirring up trouble? He'll let his fierce mother-in-law tear into the jackal neighbors! Sacrificing flesh to feed the hawks? He'll still cut off his son's hand before it reaches into the black market!

Using his dying body as a chess piece, he stirs up the undercurrents in the courtyard. When everyone thinks the Jia family has nothing left but bones to gnaw on,

no one notices the throat-slitting blade hidden beneath those "sickly bones."

And inside the iron box on that snowy night… the green light of a radio receiver, ticking away, has quietly pierced the freezing wind.
