After My Scumbag Husband Took a Second Wife, I Married Up

Ji Zhen is a wealthy merchant’s orphan, and everyone in the Song family wants to take her for everything she has. She resolutely chooses the impoverished top scholar who has come to stay with the Songs.

After they marry, she uses every connection and every bit of her dowry to support her husband at any cost. But once he has made his name, he returns from his hometown with a delicate young woman, claiming she was his late elder brother’s fiancée and has remained unmarried for eight years to honor his memory.

He says, “Yiniang is chaste and virtuous. As my elder brother’s younger brother, it is my duty to shoulder the responsibility of supporting both branches of the family and bring Yiniang home to care for her.”

She refuses, and he flies into a rage. “You schemed to force me into marrying you in the first place. I can ask the emperor for permission to divorce you now!”

Later, Song Jian, heir to the Song family, strokes Ji Zhen’s slightly rounded belly and asks with a sidelong glance, “Why haven’t you divorced him yet? Do you want my child to call him Father?”
