Hong Xiuquan was a leader of a peasant uprising in the late Qing Dynasty and the Heavenly King of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. His life had a profound impact on modern Chinese history.
Founding the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom: On January 11, 1851, Hong Xiuquan led the Jintian Uprising, declared the founding of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and proclaimed himself its Heavenly King.
Led by Hong Xiuquan, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom movement lasted 14 years. Its influence spread across eighteen provinces, and it captured more than six hundred cities in succession, dealing a heavy blow to reactionary forces at home and abroad and leaving a lasting mark on modern Chinese history.
