Startled by an Old Dream

[Heartbreaking tragic ending]

Zhong Shuyin always dreamed of a warm figure. Later, she tucked that figure away in her heart, until... that face appeared in her dreams once more, and she realized with a shock that she had lost him many years ago.

The person who once pulled her out of the abyss was also the one responsible for her misfortune. Once everything had settled, what fate would await them...

The beginning of the story:

“You have to come back safe.” She lowered her head, not daring to look at him again. “When spring comes, I want to go to that pear-blossom grove with you again, to see the blossoms in full bloom, like snow.”

“All right. I'll do my best to return by spring. Then we'll go see the pear blossoms together, like snow.” He crouched down and met her gaze. “For you, A Yin, I will come back safe!”

The end of the story:

He said: “The pear-blossom snow we promised to see together was never to be. This spring, I can no longer return, and I will never see its beauty again. We once stood together beneath the pear-blossom snow; let that be the promise that we would share a lifetime and grow old together.”

She said: “Wei Dengli, I'm coming to find you. I'll make up for the pear-blossom snow you broke your promise to see with me.”
