Love and Hate Bewilder the Heart, No Medicine Can Cure It

After my eighth miscarriage, I hemorrhaged badly. My husband, Gu Qushen, mobilized every blood supply in the city to keep me safe.

But during surgery, my body’s acquired resistance to anesthesia caused me to wake unexpectedly. I heard Gu Qushen talking to the doctor:

“Mr. Gu, this miscarriage and hemorrhage are worse than any of the previous ones. The strain has been severe, and your wife has permanently lost the ability to get pregnant. Do you still want to proceed with the experiment in five days?”

“Of course. Mingyue is still waiting for the final experimental data.”

It was the first time I had heard Gu Qushen speak so coldly.

“But that would require removing her uterus entirely! This drug trial has caused your wife to miscarry seven times. Her body is completely depleted. I’m worried that if we remove her uterus for the experiment, she might…”

Gu Qushen fell silent for a moment, but then firmly continued:

“One last experiment! After that, I’ll make it up to her. Just do your job, and keep your opinions to yourself.”

So all my pregnancies and miscarriages had been part of Mingyue’s experiment.

The excruciating pain tearing through my body mingled with the sorrow in my heart. For a moment, I couldn’t tell which hurt more.

If his love was nothing but a lie, then it was time for me to leave.
