Yellowstone is set in Montana, where John Dutton owns the largest ranch in the United States. The ranch borders the country's first national park, an Indian reservation, and land purchased by developers. A host of land-related conflicts and disputes lead the Dutton family into a series of fierce battles with various powerful forces.
To protect their family ranch, the Duttons are constantly clashing with real estate developers coveting their land, Indian tribes, and other groups. Along the way, the family members face all kinds of challenges and difficult choices. Each has a distinct personality and set of beliefs, and the interplay of family, self-interest, tradition, and modernity gives rise to complex relationships and emotional entanglements.
