A New Compilation of the Materia Medica: Plain-Language Edition and Commentary

A Modern Vernacular Edition and Interpretation of the Newly Compiled Materia Medica reinterprets and closely examines the classical medical work Newly Compiled Materia Medica in modern, accessible language. The original brings together a wealth of knowledge about Chinese herbal medicine and traditional Chinese medical theory, but its difficult classical prose has limited its reach. Preserving the essence of the original, this book uses clear, straightforward language to make profound knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine more relevant to everyday life and easier to understand. It not only explains in detail the nature, flavor, meridian tropism, effects, and indications of each herb, but also draws on modern research to provide a scientific interpretation of their pharmacological effects, building a bridge between classical and modern medicine. Whether you are a scholar or practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, or simply a reader interested in Chinese medical culture, you will find much to gain and come to appreciate its depth and distinctive appeal.
