A Record of Strange Tales, Past and Present

Let's talk about the past and present, and share strange tales. Hello, readers! I'm the author of this book, Lao Zhou. A friendly warning: if you're easily scared, read with caution. I'll take you on a journey through haunted houses and strange tales from ancient and modern China. When I decided to write these stories, I was no longer sure I was a hundred-percent materialist. In fact, there really are so many phenomena and stories in this world that science simply can't explain. I believe magnetism is the only thing that can make sense of it all. From the spirit mediums of the old Northeast to the curse-casting of Nanyang, the Bermuda Triangle, the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 incident, the ancient secrets of Lu Ban, and all manner of strange people and baffling events, there are countless tales like these, so let's not dwell on them here. I'll tell each well-known supernatural tale in detail, in the form of a story. The stories in this book may not reproduce every rumor exactly as it was told, but they are all based on real events. I've also adapted the experiences of everyone in the book to some extent, so feel free to treat it as a familiar, clichéd story people might share over tea, or as a documentary. If you've experienced anything described in this book, or even lived, traveled, or spent time at one of the places in these stories, then you can think of Zhou as an old friend. Your experiences are already etched deep in my mind, and I've put them down in this book for you.
