NOT a clean romance!!! There is some true love, but not much!
Don’t think too hard while reading!
The author is fragile!
An imaginary dynasty
In the harem of Great Sheng, the selection of new consorts stirs up a storm in this bloodless battlefield. The empress, mother to all under Heaven, is disliked by the empress dowager because of her past. Though she occupies the central palace, she treads on thin ice, struggling to maintain a calm facade as she navigates the competing factions. Consort Wan relies on her illustrious family and an old connection to the prince’s household to indulge her arrogance, flaunting her favor and making a show of herself throughout the harem. Lady Yan, long oppressed by Consort Wan, patiently gathers her strength and waits for a chance to strike back. Concubine Ying is deeply calculating and will stop at nothing to capture the emperor’s heart. Concubine Jing is extraordinarily gifted. Though caught in a whirlpool of political intrigue, she remains true to her noble principles and refuses to follow the ways of the world. Lady Yan is outspoken and hot-blooded, and her impulsive honesty unexpectedly draws her into the fray.
Consort Zhen, formerly an elderly palace maid, toiled quietly in the palace for many years and was only granted the title of consort after giving birth to a daughter. Knowing how ruthless harem rivalries can be, she is humble and unassuming, always avoiding the spotlight as she carefully protects herself and her daughter amid the factions’ open and covert battles.
Deep within the palace, imperial power reigns supreme, every step conceals danger, and schemes are everywhere. Will these women, so different in temperament and fate, quietly fall from grace amid the ruthless struggle, or can they overcome every obstacle and write their own legends?
(Adapted from a novel I wrote after watching Empresses in the Palace for the first time in middle school.)
