The little flower fairy had lived in Yunhuang Hall for as long as she could remember. Lord Yanji had awakened her spirit, and she had grown up in the hall. She was its spirit, and Yunhuang Hall was her home.
The vast Yunhuang Hall was home to only one immortal, Yanji, and one little spirit, her. Whenever he had free time, Yanji taught her to write and cultivate, and told her all sorts of fascinating things. The little flower fairy had been by Yanji’s side ever since she became conscious. She simply thought she must have been born to stay with him. Yanji took her to many places, where she encountered strange beings from the Six Realms and experienced the hardships of mortal life.
Yanji told her, “You should have something you want to do.”
The little flower fairy blinked up at him. “I just want to stay by your side, my lord.”
Yanji shook his head. “That’s not it.”
“Is there something you want to do, my lord?”
Yanji gazed toward the distant Ninth Heaven.
Then one day, she met a group of people who said Yanji was a cruel, heartless executioner, a villain guilty of every evil under the sun. The little flower fairy shook her head too, a phrase flashing through her mind: “Do you know what it means to be good?”
Now she wanted to ask them the same thing.
Yanji stood atop a mound of corpses, coldness in his eyes. He held the Xuanyuan Sword and faced away from the crowd as they all cursed him.
Later, the first person who cursed him to his face was cut down by his blade. The second was cast into the Frozen Hell. The third… There was no third.
This was the first time the little flower fairy had seen Yanji like this.
Yanji stared at her coldly, his sword raised above her head.
“My lord…” The little flower fairy closed her eyes.
Yanji’s sword did not fall. His voice rang out, cold and sharp: “Go.”
