The Road to Prosperity for a Family in Jizhong tells the moving story of the Zhang family from Hewan Village in central Hebei, who work hard to build a prosperous life amid the tide of reform and opening up.
In 1978, the winds of reform and opening up reach Hewan Village. Hardworking and down-to-earth, Old Zhang quickly spots an opportunity and decides to lease several acres of wasteland from the village. The family pulls together: the eldest son, Zhang Jianguo, takes on the tough work of clearing the land; the second son, Zhang Jianye, looks into market prices; and the youngest daughter, Zhang Xiulan, carefully records their income and expenses while taking care of the household.
Once the barren fields are turned into fertile land, they spot an opportunity in growing out-of-season vegetables and decide to plant tomatoes. They face a pest outbreak along the way, but the family refuses to back down. After successfully controlling the pests, their tomatoes sell briskly, bringing the Zhang family a substantial income.
As their earnings grow, they press ahead and decide to build a small vegetable processing plant. Old Zhang provides the investment, Zhang Jianguo finds a factory site and supervises construction, Zhang Jianye researches and brings in equipment and technology, and Zhang Xiulan studies management. Once the plant is built, the family each takes on their own role, strictly monitors quality, and expands their sales channels. A few years later, the processing plant is running smoothly. They go on to establish the Hewan Cuixian Agricultural Products Group and create the Hewan Cuixian Smart Town. Their products sell well both in China and abroad, and Zhang Xincheng, Old Zhang’s grandson and Zhang Jianguo’s son, becomes a key member of the leadership team. The Zhang family grows prosperous, and they generously share their experience, helping the whole village become wealthy together. The story portrays the family’s spirit of unity, cooperation, hard work, and perseverance, inspiring people to keep striving on the path toward a happier life.
