During the period of warlord warfare in the early years of the Republic of China, social unrest provided a living environment for the corpse removal industry in western Hunan, and also spawned rampant tomb robbing activities.
The story takes place deep in the Shiwan Mountains in western Hunan. The miasma-filled primeval forest hides the tombs of the chieftain kings of the Ming Dynasty, creating an isolated and terrifying atmosphere.
The confrontation between the corpse exorcist's adherence to industry taboos and the greed of the tomb robbers triggered a mysterious curse in the thousand-year-old tomb, causing both living people and corpses to fall into irreversible mutations.
