In Kaoshan Village in Northeast China, terrifying tales of weasels hang over the land like a shadow. Hunter Zhao Gang unexpectedly encounters a weasel in the mountains that asks him to grant it a title. When he refuses, a series of horrifying events begins to plague the village. The weasel takes its revenge with savage fury, leaving the villagers terrified as Zhao Gang and the others fight back with all their might. At last, they manage to take the weasel’s inner core and think the crisis is over. But consumed by resentment, the weasel becomes a vengeful spirit and returns with even greater power. It also becomes clear that an evil sorcerer has been controlling events from behind the scenes.
Zhao Gang joins forces with Grandma Li and the other villagers. After enduring great hardship, they find the sorcerer’s talisman, and it seems the disaster has finally ended. But before long, the terrifying weasel appears again. Villager Zhang Dayong sacrifices himself to save Zhao Gang, and with his dying breath, tells him there is a secret in the ruined temple behind the village. Zhao Gang discovers ancient texts and a jade pendant there, and finally manages to dispel the weasel’s resentment. Yet he knows the danger has not truly passed. From then on, he studies tirelessly, protecting Kaoshan Village and staying alert to the unknown evil forces lurking beyond.
