A World of Many Women and Few Men: The Management Bureau’s Rebel

Lin Wan had just finished dealing with a group of lower-class women who, driven to despair, had tried to storm the men’s protection zone. Watching them scattered by high-pressure water cannons and arrested, she felt exhausted, with a dull ache in her heart. Back at the office, she received a top-secret file: a copy of a research report on the source of an infectious disease from sixty years ago, deliberately buried. At the same time, the S-rank man under her care, who might have been reborn, suddenly made a seemingly harmless request that crossed a forbidden line: he wanted to read a banned book from the old world, On the Equality of Mankind. The two incidents struck like sparks, igniting the embers of rebellion she had long suppressed. She began using her clearance to search for cracks in the vast surveillance system.
