Excerpt:

As moonlight spilled in through the white sheets hanging to dry, Lin Jiu counted the lights going out one by one in the building opposite. The diamond-shaped patch of light cast by the third window landed right in her open palm, as if she were holding a breathing crystal. The dorm supervisor’s footsteps sounded at the end of the corridor, startling the night breeze as it gnawed at her longing. Thoughts of the folds in the sleeves of an ash-gray hoodie, the tremor of a pick against guitar strings, and the curve of an Adam’s apple moving as he spoke suddenly turned into fireflies scented with rosin from a guitar case, flickering beside her pillow.
