Northern Wei in Turmoil: Buddhism and Taoism Clash Beneath Mount Taixuan
Story Background:
In the seventeenth year of Taihe under the Northern Wei, on the eve of Emperor Xiaowen's move of the capital to Luoyang, Qin Yifeng, a twelfth-generation disciple of Xuandu Temple on Mount Taishi in the Song Mountains, is sent by his master to escort the Huangting Scripture down the mountain. Along the way, he is drawn into the thousand-year undercurrent of the conflict between Buddhism and Taoism. At this time, the Dacheng Sect, backed by the Northern Wei imperial house, is building grottoes on a grand scale while secretly using human sacrifices to cultivate the evil art of the Indestructible Diamond. In Luoyang, Qin Yifeng meets the mysterious dancer Tuoba Xue. Together, they discover that everything points to the Taixuan Treasure, buried long ago by the Northern Wei emperor Tuoba Gui.
