This story takes a while to warm up. It's sweet at first, then heartbreaking. Please, give me a chance. It's a wonderful story.

Their story began with a meeting at the school gate.

Jiang Jinnian was at a loss. Right after the school year began, the school bully Lin Nianchen started pursuing her.

And he actually succeeded.

He walked toward her, one step, and she was his for a lifetime.

By his side, she let down her guard.

He was the only salvation in her bleak youth,

and she was one of the few gentle things in his unruly life.

He loved her fiercely, patiently waiting for her to open her heart;

she was afraid to get close, yet had already made him her whole world of light.

But fate is best at playing cruel tricks:

What you fear comes true; what you want eludes you.

Loved ones pass away, family ties grow cold, and those in love cannot stay together.

Chinese-style education is a long, drawn-out execution. It may not kill you, but it grinds away every last bit of spirit.

The fires of war swept across the land, leaving them barely enough time to say goodbye.

“Stars sink with Jinnian; the fading sun sets on Nianchen.”

You want to know what happens next? Well... there is no next.
