To keep the royal family from growing wary of his clan, a promising young general confines himself to the capital. The Lin family's illegitimate daughter is frail and sickly from birth, disliked by the principal wife and confined to the inner quarters. As various factions vie for their own interests, they bring together a general with an uncertain future and a sickly illegitimate daughter. They begin by trying to save themselves, then work together to save their families. Supporting each other all the way, they eventually see the clouds part and find their happy ending.
