At the Mogao Grottoes digital restoration project site in 2025, Cave 257 suddenly collapsed on a rainy night. The male patron Gu Yanzhou (mural restorer/last ink-keeper) discovered the "Conquering Demons and Transformations" hidden under the fragments of the nine-color deer mural in the collapsed cave. In the painting, the lotus lantern held by Feitian in white actually oozed cinnabar blood and tears.
