A Little Fairy of Good Fortune from the Heavens

After three years of severe drought, Linjiagou was saved by a long-awaited rain. This miracle was closely tied to the birth of Lin Xiaofu, the newborn daughter of the Lin family. Strange signs appeared in the sky when Xiaofu was born, and the golden-scaled birthmark on her wrist concealed a mystery. The villagers hailed her as a child blessed by heaven. Yet behind this auspicious sign lay a prophecy from the Imperial Astronomical Bureau’s observatory: “The Phoenix Star descends upon the world; the Qilin must perish.” It drew the Lin family into a struggle over destiny that had spanned a century.

Three-year-old Lin Xiaofu can foresee disasters, and every laugh and cry of hers can sway the winds of fate. The wooden Qilin rocking horse she designed with her own hands conceals ancient secrets, drawing the attention of Vermilion Bird Guard spies and a fox demon in disguise. A golden-scale bracelet forms a magic array to slay evil, while a Big Dipper chart foretells changes in the world. Beneath her childish face is a soul that has lived through countless reincarnations. When her beloved brothers are swept into court intrigues by the “union of the twin jades,” and her childhood friend is controlled like a puppet by a Vermilion Bird blood curse, Lin Xiaofu must wield the power of the Qilin in her child’s body and seek a way forward between family warmth and the fate of all living things.

Folk legends intertwine with covert political struggles. Beneath auspicious signs such as lotuses blooming in a dry well and a wooden horse opening its eyes lies a century of greedy schemes by the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. The copper bells in the Lin family’s old residence and messages from the ancient locust tree form a heavenly net to protect the mortal world. And those bare feet that are always trying to sneak out will one day shatter the prophecy of “the Phoenix Star burning the Qilin.” Perhaps the sharpest blade in the world is the starlight dancing in a child’s palm.
