Three Tribulations in the Mortal World

Did ancient times also have exorbitant bride prices? Mortgages and car loans? Anxiety over raising children?

When the scholar Lin Yan asked for his beloved's hand in marriage, her family demanded eighty strings of cash, a house in town, and a pair of oxen and horses!

If he couldn't provide them, he couldn't marry the woman he loved!

For the sake of their marriage, he took on debt and labored through half his life;

For the sake of their family, she lived frugally and waited patiently.

Mortgages, car loans, raising children, caring for the elderly... They experienced every hardship ordinary people could face.

Fortunately, the Matchmaker God, the God of Wealth, and the Goddess of Childbirth bore witness from the clouds,

watching an ordinary couple stand up to worldly comparisons and change the customs of their village,

until their family was secure, three generations lived under one roof, and they became an example to all.

An exorbitant bride price cannot crush true love,

And mortgages and car loans cannot keep a couple apart.

In the end, love heals every hardship of mortal life.

Only after weathering the three trials of mortal life do you understand that peace of heart is where you belong.
