Zombies and natural disasters are both fine, but the self-sacrificing saintly types have to die. The protagonist needs to be smart. No System, and no ridiculous plots where they casually gather billions' worth of supplies and a whole arsenal. That kind of thing is insulting to the reader's intelligence.
