With Twenty-Three Letters, I Wrote of the Love of My Life

“Yubai, by the time you read these letters, I’ll probably be gone…”

By the time Jiang Yubai, a successful architectural designer, discovered the pink metal box buried beneath the parasol tree in the backyard, his wife, Su Wanqing, had already left this world forever.

Twenty-three letters chronicled the little moments of their ten-year marriage. From their first meeting in the lab to their passionate college romance, from the sweet days of their newlywed life to the realities that gradually drove them apart.

He was the youngest and most promising architectural designer in S City. He worked hard to build his career, but somewhere along the way, as he chased his dreams, he lost sight of what mattered most.

She was a gifted chemistry professor. After learning she had a terminal illness, she chose to bear it in silence, using her remaining time to write down all the words she had never been able to say.

Fireworks fade in an instant, and love is hard to hold on to. Only after reading these tear-stained letters did he realize that the most precious happiness had always been by his side. Sadly, there was no way to bring it back.

Beneath the parasol tree lay not only twenty-three letters, but also a woman’s final confession and the deepest regret of a man’s life.

Tell me, is the most heartbreaking story in this world one where people miss their chance, and there is never a next time?

“Maximum angst! The year’s biggest tearjerker!”

“Halfway through, I couldn’t help going to hug my husband.”

“Everyone fighting their way through the workplace should read this story.”

“I’ve been single for five years, and this made me cry my heart out!”
