Mad God on Screen: Filmmaking by Day, Cultivation by Night

Shen Xian trashed the movie Mad God 2 online, and the payback came fast: he ended up as the screenwriter for its sequel, Mad God 3!

On his first day on set, he was stunned:

The special-effects actor? A five-meter-tall bronze giant who could level a mountain with one punch!

The production crew? A leader of the Daoist sect who could summon heavenly thunder with his bare hands and change the color of the sky with a wave!

The production director? A bloodthirsty Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation who could make your soul scatter with a single breath!

And the director was even more outrageous. He dropped the act and came clean:

“We have no money. The movie has to be made with zero budget. Every scene must be shot on location, and every special effect has to be done live by real people!”

So,

To film a return from hell, Shen Xian searched the world for a procession of a hundred ghosts, nearly turning the shoot into a zombie crisis;

To film an expedition to the North Sea, he led his ragtag crew into a head-on battle against a hundred thousand sea demons. On camera, he stood alone against them all; off camera, the crew cried for their mothers;

To film the Ten Ultimates Formation, he wandered alone into an ancient demonic dragon's lair and was blasted to charcoal by its breath. Trembling, he still raised his walkie-talkie and stammered, “C-Cut...”

Years later, as Shen Xian stood onstage to accept the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement, he wept uncontrollably:

“Other people need money to make movies. I need my life!”
