Monsters roam the mortal world, endangering all beneath heaven. The imperial court established the Xuanding Bureau, granting it authority over monster-related cases and command of the troops. Within the Bureau are also skilled alchemists and masters of the Dao, who protect the people of the realm. The protagonist, Chen Jing, is a monster-hunting officer in the Xuanding Bureau.
