This book is adapted from "The Legend of Killing Ghosts", a long novel about gods and demons written by Liu Zhang in the Qing Dynasty.
The story is set in the Dezong period of Tang Dynasty and tells the legendary experience of Zhong Kui. Zhong Kui was talented and ambitious when he took part in the imperial examination, but was dismissed because of his ugly appearance. In anger, he chose to commit suicide. Perhaps God took pity on his plight, so Zhong Kui was named the Great Exorcist after his death, shouldering the important task of exterminating ghosts in the human world.
During the journey of catching ghosts, Zhong Kui defeated demons and demons and encountered all kinds of ghosts. These ghosts have distinctive characteristics and correspond to various ugly phenomena in real life. For example, the troublemaker is good at bragging and lying; the coward is as thick-skinned as a city wall and has no sense of shame; the dirty ghost is stingy and greedy, and will do anything for money; the careful ghost is extremely stingy and fights for every cent, even if it is a small profit.
