The Complete Foundation Series Proposal

Humanity has existed for 250,000 years, but only the last 4,000 have meant anything.

So what did we do for almost 250,000 years? We hid in caves, huddled around tiny campfires, afraid of the things we did not understand: explanations for how the sun rose, monsters with human heads and birds’ bodies, and stones that were alive. So we called them “gods” and “demons,” begging them for forgiveness and praying to be saved.

Then their numbers dwindled, while ours grew. As the things we feared became fewer, we began to see the world more rationally. Yet the inexplicable did not disappear. It was as if the universe were deliberately putting its absurdity and incomprehensibility on display.

Humanity can no longer live in fear. Nothing can protect us. We must protect ourselves.

While everyone else lives in the sunlight, we must fight them in the shadows and keep them hidden from public view, so that everyone else can live in a rational, ordinary world.
