A Brief Moment of Peace tells the story of Chen Yishi and Lu Ning, and their turbulent, heartbreaking romance in their youth. After graduating from high school, Lu Ning starts university as a computer science major. Their first campus election puts her at odds with Chen Yishi, and his furious reaction marks the beginning of their ill-fated relationship. Later, Lu Ning befriends Chen Ya, and life seems to grow a little warmer. But Chen Yishi keeps picking on her: he scares off the kitten she was playing with, then, after being elected class monitor, reports her without mercy for not doing her homework, forcing Lu Ning to run laps on the track under the scorching sun. Lu Ning grew up in a broken family, and the trauma of her childhood has left her sensitive and fragile. The hurt she feels after running and the tears she sheds late at night conceal pain no one else knows about. When Chen Yishi sees how vulnerable she is, he quietly feels remorse and tries to make amends.
